About

My name is Jeremy Olson and I am a McKenzie County native; my family farmed here for several generations. Growing up in an agricultural community gave me the appreciation for hard work, personal integrity, and an awareness of our natural resources. My career in the energy industry provides me with the knowledge of how the energy industry works collaboratively with its community for its mutual benefit. I have been in the ND House of Representatives since my election in 2022

Service and excellence have been a part of my character my whole life. Starting as a Cub Scout, all the way through Eagle, community service has been a cornerstone of my upbringing. That service continued into adulthood. Enlisting in the National Guard at age 17 while I was still in high school, my service to our nation began early. I graduated from West Point and was commissioned as an Army Officer, serving our nation until being medically discharged as a Captain.

The role of State Representative is complex and time-consuming.  I am not in this position for selfish reasons. I have taken an active part in my community and region since moving my family back home. Returning to Western North Dakota in 2011, I immediately stepped into service and leadership roles in the community, county, and in my industry. I am currently a Township Officer and the former Chairman of the County Planning and Zoning committee, giving me a working knowledge of local government. As a safety professional in the energy industry, I am a leader amongst my peers in safety, leading initiatives, and sharing best practices in the industry. Currently, I am on the Board of Directors for the North Dakota Safety Council as well as serving on the boards of two North Dakota Veterans associations. My motivation for the role of State Representative is to continue to serve District 26 as I have done in many roles during my life. I may have taken off my Army uniform, but I didn’t stop serving.

Chairman, McKenzie County Planning and Zoning Committee (2013-2021)

As the former County Planning and Zoning Committee Chairman, I oversaw the P&Z Committee during the review, evaluation, and recommendations to the County Commissioners on matters of commercial and industrial planning and zoning requests. During the largest growth period of McKenzie County’s history, this committee was responsible for ensuring responsible growth, while maintaining the integrity of the land, neighbors, and surrounding uses.

As a Township Supervisor, am one of three Supervisors in charge of infrastructure and road maintenance, planning and zoning, and permitting of commercial building operations within the borders of Arnegard Township, McKenzie County, ND. My specialty is the planning and zoning aspects of the township and county during the influx of energy sector businesses in the region. As the former Chairman of the McKenzie County Township Officer's Association, I oversaw the coordination and communication of relevant information, and served as a means for the organized townships of North Dakota's largest county to address concerns before various governmental boards and agencies.
